Hlíf Sigurjónsdóttir was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Iceland. Upon graduation in Reykjavík she furthered her studies at the Universities of Indiana and Toronto and Banff School of Fine Arts in Canada. Later she took lessons with the renowned violinist and teacher Gerald Beal in New York.
Hlíf has performed numerous concerts as a soloist and with various ensembles. Concert sites include New York - Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall and Washington DC as a part of the Embassy Series. With this concert, and a previous one last January, she has performed all three sonatas, and three partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach in New York. In 2008 she released a double CD with the above mentioned works.

“Hlíf Sigurjónsdóttir plays with a great purity of tone which she can tailor to the historical and individual style of the pieces she performs. Her bowing is always flexible and accurate, and her sense of pitch is precise. She is an excellent representative of music in a very musically intense nation”.

Cecelia Porter Music critic at the Washington Post

“My first and most striking impression is the utmost ease and relaxed openness with which Ms. Sigurjonsdottir addresses her instrument. Her sound is transparent and room filling simultaneously, a very satisfying combination of traits for the listener”. [+]
